Stephen Pritchard is a Permaculture designer, consultant and teacher.
After completing a degree in Fine Art and Sculpture, Stephen spent formative years using, lime mortar, stone and wrought iron, to conserve listed buildings and monuments. He then set up a rural forge and made his livelihood from the ancient craft of blacksmithing.
Since completing a permaculture design course in 1995 he has been commited to work that facilitates environmental sustainability at community level. He spent two years as a manager of Dyfed Permaculture Farm Trust. This project was one of the first attempts at broadscale permaculture design in the UK.
He has also designed, set up and managed of a forty acre agroforestry demonstration site in Somerset and developed a programme of courses in sustainable land-use. This in turn led on to the management of two community tree nurseries in Bristol as part of the Forest of Avon.
His love of trees is matched only by his love of ponds and pond making. He believes small scale sustainable aquaculture will be significant in providing future food security.
Specifically he has an enthusiasm for Aquaponics which he has been researching as a specialism for over three years.
He has worked across the public, private and voluntary sectors, in partnerships and multi-agency settings. His work has been feactured in the New Internationalist magazine and he is a founding partner of Edible Landscape.
In 2001 Stephen was awarded the Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design and it is now his pleasure to help others on their pathways to this award.
