Gladys Paulus

Gladys' interest in permaculture is intimately linked to her passion for natural arts and crafts. It was during her work for a not-for-profit environmental education organisation in Brighton that her commitment to environmental issues evolved rapidly and it provided her with an opportunity to attend a permaculture design course in 2002.

Following on from this, she was a member of the management group of the Brighton Permaculture Trust for four years and started teaching permaculture on a variety of BPT courses. She is currently completing work on her Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design, which she started in 2003.

Permaculture is the driving force of inspiration behind Gladys' creative work as a felt maker with a background in Fine Art. Not only does the natural world offer a wealth of amazing materials; handling and manipulating these forces the maker to observe and interact with their unique properties and question their function, a process which is also of vital importance to permaculture design. She runs workshops in natural arts and crafts
through her business Spiral Garden www.spiral-garden.co.uk and she jointly runs Vallis Veg Boxes, a vegetable box scheme based in Frome (Somerset) of which she is a founding partner.
